Downtime is Productive - Happy Musician Strategies

THE STRATEGY MINI SERIES'

Overcoming Imposter Syndrome

  • Third: Don't suffer in silence; talking to a mentor and or close friend is necessary. Saying your unrealistic feelings out loud in a safe space is a great way to diminishing their power. Knowing you're not alone and you have a sounding board, will boost your confidence and keep you moving forward.

THE SCIENCE

  • Imposter syndrome is rooted in shame. That feeling of shame then attacks your confidence. This leads to an internal conflict that if left unchecked can stall your progress or worse reverse the progress you have made.

  • Psychologists haven't pinpointed out why imposter syndrome arises. They have a theory that it's rooted in childhood interactions with authority. So don't rack your brain trying to figure out why, put your energy into overcoming it.
